Annette Van Howe "Failure is Impossible" Award. At the 1998 Semi-Annual meeting, Florida Women's Consortium established the "Failure is Impossible" Award in honor of FWC leader and 1st President Annette Van Howe. The award is presented annually during Lobby Days and recognizes women and men who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the role of women. <award recipients>


Florida Women's Consortium PAC (FWCPAC) was established in 1998 as a nonpartisan political action committee registered under Florida law. Its primary goals are to advance issues benefiting women and girls in Florida and work politically to achieve full equality and empowerment for women. FWCPAC does NOT endorse candidates. <more>

Voter Education Projects. Beginning with the 1996 election cycle, Florida Women's Consortium provided competitive mini-grants to members to support voter education projects in local communities. <recipients>


"W" Project . Florida Women's Consortium became a founding coalition partner in the "W" Project in 2001. The"W" Project's mission is to educate and organize women across the state for the purpose of electing pro-Choice women at all levels of government from City Hall to the Governor's Office in 2002. <more> "W" Project web site


Sexual Harassment Education and Outreach Project (SHEOP). The Florida Women's Consortium successfully completed an outreach and training program in Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties. The project director was Anne Gannon.

Economic-Entrepreneurial Task Force was created in March 1999 as a joint project of Florida Women's Consortium and Florida WWINS. The final report of the extensive research, Women Opening Windows in Florida's Glass Ceiling, provided details of the status of women in Florida in leadership roles, in salaries and in government. The project director was Doris Reeves-Lipscomb. <Executive Summary> The complete report may be purchased for a cost of $10 by contacting Nancy Hurlbert.

Florida Women's Consortium played a leadership role in organizing the Coalition of Conscience. The march, held March 7. 2000, was the largest protest ever held in Tallahassee, demonstrating broad support for affirmative action and equal opportunity programs in Florida.


WomenWise Alliance. Florida Women's Consortium is member of this coalition of providers, professional organizations, health advocacy groups and women's groups, whose goal is to educate women about health risks after menopause and motivate them to see health care. FWC officers Jean Harden & Helen Zientek served on the steering committee.

Florida Women's Consortium was a founding member of Floridians Respecting Equity and Equality (F.R.E.E.), a coalition organized in Florida in 1998 to defeat anti-affirmative action ballot amendments. FWC officer Nancy Hurlbert served as Secretary of the organization.


Florida WON. Florida Women's Consortium and the Florida Education and Employment Council of Women and Girls developed the Florida Women's Occupational Network (Florida WON) to educate women about the issues and implications confronting low income women regarding workforce development and welfare reform.


Litigation. Florida Women's Consortium is a plaintiff or amicus curiae in challenges to laws passed by the Florida legislature that restricted a woman's access to abortion services including the parental notification law, the 24 waiting period law, the so-called Partial Birth Abortion ban and the ban on Medicaid funding for abortion.


Legislative Scorecard. Florida Women's Consortium produces an annual scorecard of legislator's votes on key women's issues in Florida. The Scorecard enables members to hold individual legislators accountable for their votes on issues affecting women and girls.
